After enduring years of terrifying nightmares, a mysterious figure has begun to appear in Leah’s dreams. He's both grim and glorious--lit with the glory of the sunrise, yet his fierce countenance banishes the horrors that haunt her. She recognizes him as the imposing, enigmatic senior who has drawn her interest since first sight. He’s been frequenting her dreams for months but now seems to be watching her day and night, and Leah can’t resist fantasizing that the aloof boy everyone else is afraid of may actually be protectively watching over her. But her friends warn her that he’s dangerous. When Leah’s worst nightmares begin to materialize around her and her world begins to fray at the seams, her night angel is the only one Leah trusts to help her. Angel or demon, with danger closing in on her, she wants to believe that he can save her. But can anyone save her from herself? If she only knew what awaits her. There’s something Leah’s nightmares have been trying to tell her…. I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is a good novel for anyone in high school who has a rather large crush on the mysterious boy or girl. Approach them; stop staring at them because trust me, they're aware and as are your friends; it's creepy. Who knows, maybe they're an angel in disguise or end up being your best friend for life. There are alternating POVs in this story but it doesn't distract from the story too much. Leah's dreams and nightmares were interesting, especially the dreaming of Asher without realizing it. The story is well crafted and well thought out. Good for young adult and up. I received a copy of this book from the author for free and I am leaving a review voluntarily.Wow, this was quite the read. This novel was so rich; from the carefully crafted characters to the cities and the villages where they all dwelled, plus the historical accuracies. This author is definitely someone to look out for. The only complaint I would have is the mixed POV's as they were confusing at first, even with the handy appendix. Some of the voices kind of blended together and I had to go back to see who it was that was speaking. Regardless of my complaint, it is still an excellent read and I absolutely recommend it. It gives a wonderful view of a side of history that the West doesn't always get to see. RatingE. Y. What she didn't expect was Tedo, the Martians, or to wake up to a world headed for war. I received a copy of this book from the author for free and I am leaving a review voluntarily. This was awesome. Nothing like impending doom, an end of the world survival story. I really enjoyed that the author considered the survival of the human race and set up a possibility of survival after a catastrophic event. The practice of eugenics was incredibly thought out. Two groups of genetically modified children are raised as the hope and future of the human race. One group is placed in stasis while the other group was sent to Mars in hopes that they could return one day to Earth. The brains of the story were Cynthia or Cyn. She was incredibly smart, although she was essentially written to be. But even as a precocious child, she was super intelligent and self-aware. But Tedo was easily the best character. He was relatable for a character which endeared me to him especially. While this isn't a hugely science-heavy book, it is still an excellent read for science fiction. ReviewI received a copy of this book from the author for free and I am leaving a review voluntarily.I really struggled with this. The synopsis sounded so interesting and I was keen on it but it just fell flat for me. This story felt rushed. There was very little world building and the characters were very one dimensional. Kal made so many decisions that made zero sense; things that put him and Amber directly into harms way. In all honesty, this story really needed more time spent on it. Because of this, it felt generic and unoriginal and I felt absolutely nothing for the characters. The mad scientist taking over the world bit has so many different layers that can be explored instead of one dimensional exploration. ReviewI received an advanced copy of this book from BookSirens for free and I am leaving a review voluntarily. This book is definitely what it said it was going to be: the build up of the history of the Gods, Demons, Ghosts, all designed into the Provenance. Therefore, it is a bit of a slow burn, which is not a bad thing, personally. I don't mind a slow burn because the history was fascinating. I was a little bored by the Twin Gods, but Ehlona made up for it. She was the most human of all three of the Gods. Her sorrow as the Witch was incredibly relatable. This is a book filled with exceptional world building and it touches on all of the ideas of a birth of a religion, the balance of Good versus Evil. ReviewI received a free copy of this book from the author and I am leaving a review voluntarily.
This might have been one of the more different dystopian novels that I have read, for sure. There were the similar topics of cannibals, running out of resources, fighting to survive, starvation that is common in this genre, but a pregnant woman's full out determination to get to a place she's only seen in dreams and heard about in rumours definitely made it different. The common tropes made the risk of getting Nista there unscathed even more prominent, considering she was ready to give birth at any time.
Sometimes the plot did seem like it was driving towards figuring out how to kill Nista's husband Dane. I kind of felt bad for the guy the entire time I was reading the book, especially as he was just trying to provide for his pregnant wife. The loss of their first child also made me sad for Dane as well. I actually almost yeeted the entire book in the beginning because it is one thing to kill to survive or in defence, but it is entirely another to lead innocent lambs and dogs to senseless slaughter. I survived and prevailed into the read but still! About the Author

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a voluntary, honest review.Oh, I absolutely love a tale about creepy happenings in a forest village, for sure! I absolutely enjoyed the concept that the day is safe, the night is dangerous. During the day, everyone in the village has a purpose with a knack or a skill that helps the village. Lonan, the boy who screamed in the night and caused his father's death, his knack seems to be prophetic dreams. He goes on quite the adventure to earn his village's trust and protect them from what he see's in his dreams. I love that this story touches on so many folktales from different cultures. This has a little of everything for every reader all over the world because of that. Reimagining folktales is one of my absolute favourite genres. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. On one hand with this story, I loved the writing and the world building. It seems like the Krysland folk are a lot less savage than their Guerra neighbours thought they were. I also 100% appreciated the slow burn romance in it. So much nicer to read something like that instead of instant infatuation. But Saph just rubbed me the wrong way. I did enjoy that she was strong and independent, from the beginning she clearly did not belong in Guerra and she expressed that deeply. She loathed their customs and was not impressed to be forced into it. Although the Krysland people did not really tell the girls why they had them, it seemed that from the beginning that the women in Krysland had more freedoms and were treated significantly better than those in Guerra, who were little more than chattel. Yet Saph was abrasive and defiant of them constantly and I wanted to reach in, shake her and say "stop, you've been given a second chance, take it!" The twist was interesting though. I hope that Saph grows from her experiences and within the next book, she's a little less abrasive. Rating:Andy Barnes lives Tasmania with her husband, Nick, and their two girls, Pirri and Inika. I received this eBook from the author in exchange for an honest review. This book had so much promise. I was completely sucked in by the premise and then I hit a massive wall and had a falling out with the novel. The novel is set in a historical time period but the dialogue and mannerisms were modernized to the point that it was jarring and not befitting. Alexandra was far too independent for the time period; no amount of money would distract from her being a lone woman who comes and goes at all hours of the night. People were absolutely terrified of demons and witches, she would have been pegged immediately as one or both. There was just so much inconsistency with the novel that it ruined it for me. Which was disappointing because, if done right, this would have been a superb novel and easily would have been a 4 or 5 star read for me. Loren Molloy won her first award in 2005 for Best Young Poet. I'm surprised our family has survived this long. My name's Charlie Conti and I'm fourteen years old. You see, my dad has dragged me and my little brother, Luca, away from Melbourne where I've spent most of my life so far. Out of the Light and into the Darkness of regional Victoria to a coastal town called Henty Bay. Yeah, I'd never heard of it either. I can see the benefits though. After all the problems with the Port Melbourne Intifada, where Captain Calamari totally lost it and my dad ended up at the bottom of Port Phillip Bay, we had to leave the city. There were some harsh words thrown around and maybe a few vendettas were forged in the fires of the moment. So we had to move. Dad, or The Undertaker as he's known in the business, was damaged goods. One thing I would say is that Charlie is very responsible and smart, she handles problems that even grown-ups would chew their nails anxiously at, but at the same time she is relatable. Being a kid of the mid-80's and 90's, I grew up on the movie "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" and this was totally up my alley. About a month ago, my best friend and her son asked me if I had any cool, not-normal, kind of introverted kids books that I had read. I knew then that this was the book to recommend to my nephew. His mom bought it and she said he read it every day until he was done. On FaceTime, I received two thumbs up with him saying he loved the book! Star RatingI would definitely recommend this book for all ages. Not just middle-grade. It's interesting enough to draw in adults (especially young at heart adults ;) ). Ben Langdon was born in Geelong, Victoria, and is a graduate of Deakin University. The people who want to use her unique genetics for their own ends are still out there and their reach is long. After an emotional split with Ben and hiding deep in the slums she soon meets Songhay, a charismatic thief and his younger sister, Roosevelt. Together, they dodge violent gangs, roaming Slithers and the ever present threat of acid rain. Growing closer, Niko, along with Songhay soon form a rag-tag band of Slither hunters to keep the slums safe and the monsters at bay. But then she discovers shocking information about her past that challenges everything she thought to be true about herself and those she loves. Now she has to decide if she's going to stay safe in hiding or stand up to the lies and injustice swarming around her. She was never one to lie low for long. I received this ebook from the Author in exchange for an honest review.Niko was one of my favourite reads ever and Harm quickly follows up with that claim. The author has quite the skill in world-building, creating a world that is so terrifyingly believable and creating characters who are real and relatable. Niko adopts a shortened version of her real name, Harm and becomes one with it as she hides out in the slums of Cherai City, where acid is a real problem, like fall in and never get up again problem. She meets a thief by the name of Songhay who is trying to earn enough money to get his sister Roosevelt past the gates and out of that life. I really like Songhay. He made the bad-ass soften a little. While Niko was still full bad-ass Slither hunter, she seems to really like Songhay too. To be honest, I'm more for Songhay than Ben, myself. Songhay has a humble side to him that Ben lacks, personally. And then there is Roosevelt. All sass and knows it too. She added great personality to the book. Book 2 left me wondering what was going to happen with Niko as some truths were revealed. But I absolutely look forward to the next book!
